The client’s initiative was founded to significantly impact specific ecosystems that affect the future of emerging economies by creating businesses that deliver disruptive and sustainable growth.
For this project, the client wanted to create an accessible, impactful, and intuitive savings and investment product that reaches sectors of the South African market which are not well served by existing products.
The South African saving and investment landscape requires in-depth research. By understanding the target audience’s past and current financial habits, we aimed to create an accessible, impactful, and intuitive savings and investment product/solution that reaches the South African market.
To do this, my team and I proposed to undertake broad research across the savings and investment landscape to enable the design and implementation of such a product. We investigated and explored mental models, habits, blockers, and drivers, including competitor products, to provide a rich understanding of the target audience and find potential product strategies to reach the same.

The research and design team spent a morning outlinining our research objectives and our anticipated outcomes. By the end of the morning we had defined the following as our objectives and outcomes:
Investigate Mental Models and Cognitive Frameworks
Analyze Financial Habits and Behaviours
Identify Barriers and Obstacles
